2021 Tempranillo (Six Pack)
RRP $32.00 | Sale $18.00 per bottle
(Six Pack) Tempranillo (from the Spanish temprano, meaning early) is a grape variety originating in Spain. A relative newcomer to Australia, it is capable of producing a variety of styles depending on climate and winemaking technique. The 2021 is all about vibrant red fruit deliciousness. An elegant, early drinking style that shows just how versatile the Tempranillo variety is in the Hunter Valley.
The grapes are from the Broke Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter Valley. The vines are situated adjacent to the Hunter River with the imposing backdrop of Yellow Rock. These vines have achieved their balance at a relatively young age and with the assistance of selective fruit thinning throughout the growing season they have achieved optimal ripeness.
In 2021 the grapes were harvested at 13.5 Baume in the third week of February. The fruit was crushed to open fermenters and cold-soaked for 24 hours prior to fermentation. The juice was fermented on skins for approximately 6 days with a combination of hand plunging and pump-over method. The wine was then pressed and half the wine transferred to 2 and 3 year old French barriques. The wine was racked frequently to aerate and soften the tannins. The blended wine was bottled after 18 months oak maturation.
Showing vibrant red currant fruit aromas with some complex characters of green olive, spice and just a hint of tobacco. The palate has a beautiful silky texture with flavours of liquorice and sour cherry fruits. Built for early drinking but will cellar for 2-3 years.
