Pinot Gris 2016

Pinot Gris 2016

The French call it Pinot Gris, the Italians call it Pinot Grigio, we just call it a fantastic grape variety. With unusual texture, copper hues and a velvety mouth feel this is a great new variety on the Australian landscape.

Viticulture

Grown in the cool climate region of the Goulburn Valley, the vines are planted in a north south direction with extended trellising to allow the sunlight to penetrate the canopy. To maintain the delicate fruit flavours of the variety we harvest the grapes a little earlier at just under 13.0 Baume.

Winemaking Notes

After harvesting in the cool days of March, the Pinot Gris grapes were gently crushed. As the grapes are highly coloured at ripeness, the juice was then quickly separated from the skins, with only the free-run portion of the juice used. For complexity a small portion of the juice was fermented in two year old French Oak barriques. The wine was matured for six months on lees with regular battonage. The remaining juice was fermented in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes

It's slightly perfumed, slightly minerally and very tasty. With a richly textured palate and a touch of residual sweetness that is characteristic of the Pinot Gris style. Perfect white for salads and seafood.
