Little Gem Shiraz 2015

Little Gem Shiraz 2015

The best Shiraz from the Little Wine Co from the best vintage. This Little Gem release is seamless & silky with voluptuous layers of fruit and oak flavours with a core of cassis and berry flavours. Matured for 24 months in oak – it shows.

Viticulture

The number of cases of Little Gem is dictated by the vintage conditions - in 2015 only a small parcel of fruit was deemed to be of Little Gem quality. Consequently 2015 is a very limited release. The fruit comes from the Riverbank vineyard in the Broke-Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter Valley. These low yielding vines produce fruit with intense flavour and colour. In 2015 the vineyard was selectively hand-harvested on the 18th February with the remaining vines left to ripen further. These were harvested nearly four weeks later in mid-March. This attention to flavour maturity in the vineyard resulted in a stellar wine from a slightly challenging vintage.

Winemaking Notes

After 12 months oak maturation the best barrels were selected for the Little Gem blend. The wine was taken out of oak, blended and returned to barrels for a further 12 months ensuring a perfect integration of oak and fruit flavours.

Tasting Notes

The intensity of the fruit is apparent on the nose, with aromas of blackcurrant and spice. The palate is seamless and silky with voluptuous layers of fruit and oak flavours. Being a cooler vintage the wine is on the more elegant, medium bodied spectrum with a slightly higher acidity allowing for long term cellaring.
